The Gems Project

I am a skier. And I have a van.

I’ve had an Epic pass. It wasn’t epic.

So we’re going to pack the van up every weekend and travel to one of the¬†Colorado Gem¬†ski areas in 2018-19.

Here we’ll keep trip reports from these Gems, local beta, and meaningful ski-experience metrics. It’s about celebrating a different way of enjoying a winter on skis. It will be appropriately dirtbaggy.

But I’m not a dirtbag. I’ve got most of the trappings of traditional life: a 7:30-5 job, a better half, a house I sometimes resent taking care of, and an idiot dog.

My hope is this site isn’t an escapist #vanlife adventure only the young and those who have shirked typical¬†responsibilities can have. It’s for people like me that don’t have the courage to. Or for folks who admire a different kind of balance in life that includes no lift lines, good beers for less than $9, free camping, backcountry adventures, and friendly lift ops.


Report Template

Last weekend the Gem’s kicked off their 2018-19 season, with both Arapahoe Basin and Loveland opening.
